HMRC – Closure of helplines across Debt Management EIS teams (February 2021)

Published:

As you may recall, HMRC took the decision to close all helplines across Debt Management’s (DM)’s EIS teams from Monday 25 January 2021 as a result of a large number of DM staff being redeployed to HMRC’s COVID helplines and the small amount of remaining staff were spending a significant amount of time answering progress chasing calls, taking them away from working cases.

HMRC have now informed R3 that the EIS helplines are now open along with the following –

Administrations – 0300 322 9250

Compulsory Winding Up – 0300 322 9209 (examiners) and 0300 322 9210 (support team)

Whilst the telephone lines are open, HMRC staff are continuing to work on clearing the backlog of issues and have asked members of the profession to adopt a reasonable approach and only contact where a query is urgent.

If any members have any particularly urgent cases, in particular Administrations scheduled for closure etc., please can you direct your urgent matter as per R3’s update to members in October 2020, which can be found here. The R3 Technical Team are collating submissions on a weekly basis and reporting these directly to our HMRC liaison officer. Whilst R3 will continue to report urgent issues to HMRC on behalf of members, we will not be involved in resolving any individual case issues raised and accordingly we cannot give any indication as to how HMRC will respond or the timeline to resolve.
